 Staff Backup Victim Advocate

 

Job Title:                      Crisis Services Staff Back Up Victim Advocate

Reports to:                         Crisis Services Manager

Hours:                         Vary/ Required to take a minimum of one shift a month.         

Salary Range:                     Receive a small stipend per week on call to cover expenses incurred as a result of being on call

 

 

 

Description: The Crisis Services Department of the RCCCNM is designed to effectively address and reduce the impact of sexual violence through our work with survivors of sexual violence. RCCCNM currently provides two 24 hour services, including a crisis hotline and medical advocacy including services for Spanish-speaking survivors.

 

Staff Back Up Advocates are responsible for being on call from their home or other appropriate location. While on call the SBU Advocate will advocate for victims of sexual assault on the 24 hour hotline and in person at Sexual Assault Nurse Exams. The SBU Advocate will be the first layer of advocates on the two layer back up system. When a Volunteer or Staff Advocate is unavailable to answer a call or take a case the SBU Advocate will be called.

 

Requirements: Complete a mandatory 40 hour training provided by the Rape Crisis Center of Central New Mexico. Must have a reliable vehicle and cell phone. Must keep in contact with the Crisis Services Manager on a weekly basis. Must take at least one weekend shift, week day shift or week long shift a month. Must submit to a criminal background check.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Be on call from your cell phone to advocate for victims of sexual violence. The following are the options for the SBU schedule:
    1. Friday from 5PM through Monday at 6AM
    2. Monday through Friday, 5:00 PM to 6:00 AM each day (you will not be on call from 6AM-5PM Monday through Friday).
    3. Friday from 5PM through Monday at 6AM AND Monday through Friday, 5:00 PM to 6:00 AM
  2. Provides crisis intervention services by taking crisis calls and providing advocacy at Sexual Assault Nurse Exams. These exams are conducted at the Albuquerque Family Advocacy Center or local hospitals.
  3. Provide appropriate and effective crisis intervention services to RCCCNM clients.
